Spring is coming near!

Hi everyone!

Cherry blossom season is now over in Japan. It was so far the most beautiful blossoms I have ever seen. I got a chance to visit to Chidorigafuchi around Tokyo imperial palace over the last weekend. It was packed with locals and tourists!

Although it was a little cloudy, people had smiles on their faces!

Then we went to Harajuku to have crepes for afternoon snack!

Japan as it is.

Hi there. It's me! I'm back to blogging. It is cherry blossom season again. It started blooming just the beginning of this week. I managed to take photos of a very lovely cherry blossom in full bloom!

The past few weeks have been very tough not only for me, but for the whole country. I had a ticket back to Toronto on March 18. I kept staring at it ever since the earthquake started.

The earthquake happened just two weeks after I arrived in Japan. It was one sunny afternoon. I was watching We got married with Nickhun and Victoria online and all of sudden the whole house started to shake. It started off mild and within a few minutes, it was shaking badly. I felt the house was very jello-like. I got dizzy from the quake. It was so strong that I panicked. I have never experienced something like this in my life. I remember ducking under the table and just waited until it toned down, telling myself I'm fine and not to panic. When the earthquake toned down a little, I opened the front door to go outside and saw that my neighbors were already outside. No one said anything, we just exchanged glances. All I could see was the electric poles and the ground shaking really badly.

Then aftershocks began all day and night long. I didn't sleep at all that night. The aftershocks continued for weeks. I could feel it until recently, but it wasn't as strong, feels like a truck passing by.

I learned a few things from the earthquake experience.

- When the earthquake happens, first thing you do is to turn off the gas. This is to prevent fire.

- Do not escape during the earthquake, something might drop and hit you. Instead, wait until the earthquake tones down and try to escape, don't forget to cover your head.

- Open the windows and doors, the house will loosen its shape during a strong earthquake, then you will have a place to escape.

- Phones and cellphones will not work during/after the earthquake.

- Always have an emergency bag prepared. This includes emergency contact number, number of your id, passport, bottles of water and so on.

- Discuss with your family members where to meet after the earthquake. ie, school, hospital, park since phones will not work.

- As for foreigners like myself, my friend suggests I have a paper written in Japanese (like I don't speak much Japanese, please take me to a safe place and include your contact phone number) with me at all time of emergency. It sounds like a kindergarten kid, but couldn't hurt to carry them around.

- If you live near the coast, check the news immediately if there will be tsunami or not.

And the thing I learned from radiation incident is you have to know your news source and don't believe everything you read. Some news source made things look worse than it really is.

I remembered when news about nuclear radiation spread, almost all supermarkets ran out of food, most shelves were empty. Water bottles and rice, bread and meat were no where to be found. Gas stations ran out of gas. Some people waited 6 hours in line just to get gas. Everybody wore masks and of course, even masks were sold out as well.

Just last week, everything appeared to be in normal state again. There are plenty of food now. I wonder if those who stocked up their food would be able to finish eating what they had bought?

Now that I have postponed my ticket to Toronto. I decided to stay with Atchan in Japan so that we can start our new life together. I really hope Japan and I could be friends despite our rough beginning.

I believe Japan is a strong country and things will get better from now on. I admire Japanese people though in rough time, people work so hard and put on their best faces.

This cherry blossom tree is so far the most beautiful full bloom I have ever seen. It stood gracefully next to the bicycle park. Everyone who parked their bicycle couldn't help looking and taking photos of it! I believe it's a wonderful beginning!!

P.S. Thank you Jenny and Becca for worrying about me.

Cheers :)

Back to blogging!

Greetings from Thailand.

I strongly apologize for leaving my blog stranded for one month to be exact. I'm now in Bangkok, Thailand and missing Toronto so very badly.

I had so much fun in Japan (shopping, sightseeing and shopping). Atchan and I went to Hakone for onsen at the right timing. It was Fall season in Hakone, the weather was just right and the scenery was breathtaking. We stayed at a hotel called Hakone Ichinoyu. It was decorated traditionally mixed with modern Japanese style.

They welcomed us with some sweets.

I was too embarrassed to share the onsen with other people, so we decided to book a room with a private outdoor onsen.

These strange socks........

go with these flip-flops.

There are more photos I'd love to share on my blog. Please, please be patient with me while I'm adjusting to my new lifestyle (sounds weird, I know) in BKK :)

Unpacking

Finally, my sister's apartment is done. I helped her unpack and setup the place just the way she likes, and here it is!

It looks pretty simple, but took so much effort. The curtains are handmade by my sister. I think she did a really good job!

We got tired from unpacking, so we made simple Thai green curry for dinner :)

Going away

Hello. Sorry for the lack of updates for the past few days. I have been helping my sister with moving. It will be her own very first apartment. I'm very happy for the new changes in her life.

Also, I have very exciting news.
......

...
..
.

I'm leaving Canada in two weeks!! It is finalized that I will be travelling to Japan and then to Thailand.

My shop will be closed from November 15 - November 30. I will try to respond emails as much as I possibly could. Of course, I will keep my blog going. It would be so nice to share photos from Japan and Thailand here while I'm travelling :)

The shop will re-open in Thailand. I will have to stay in Thailand for a while, probably until my Japanese visa is done. Please be patient with me while I'm settling things.

I'm ready for new adventures.

New week & New month!

Happy new month! How was everyone's long weekend? I made a super easy and delicious meal for my family over the weekend. Everyone voted for baked pasta and baked sweet potato.

The best thing about this baked sweet potato was the dipping sauce. I got the dipping recipe while watching Giada de Laurentiis' cooking show. Just added some chopped garlic and squeeze a little lemon juice on the mayonnaise! I also sprinkled some curry powder and salt on the sweet potato while baking. It made a huge difference! It's one of my not-so-secret recipes :)

Got lots of orders over the last weekend. I'm off to the the post office!! Have a great day :)

Fabulous finds { Vacation please! }

I'm planning a late vacation getaway around October-ish to Thailand. It's not really summer anymore around October in Canada, but in Thailand it is!! (we have summer all year round, yay!).

I happened to come up with my wish list while searching where to travel to. I'd love to wear a long summer dress with a straw hat. I'm also loving these vintage inspired luggage from Kitson. Lastly, I have been wanting an Olympus PEN camera for a really long time. You have got to invest on one good camera, right?

For now, I'm starting my Monday with Starbucks inspired java chips drink!! Have an awesome day :)

Shop n' Promotions { New tag and etc. }

Hello. How was everyone's weekend? I've been working on my new Thank you tags for my shop over the weekend and I thought I'd love to share it here on my blog. I called it Shabby Chic tag :)

When I came home yesterday, I saw my puppy playing with paper napkins. The evidence was all over the floor. She looked seriously cute when I asked her who did it.

I haven't been able to answer all the emails on time lately. Sorry for the late replies. Will do it soon this week :)

Lovely Monday

Lovely Monday:

Up earlier than usual this morning. My puppy has a vet appointment at 10 AM for removing the stitches. We found a lump on her belly and decided to have it removed immediately.

And we got great news from the vet last Friday that the lump is benign. We couldn't be any happier!

I promise to take care of you better and better everyday :)

Peony birthday card

Hi there everyone. How are you today? My sister, Fern, made me this lovely peony card for my birthday last Friday. It's one of the most beautiful cards I've ever seen!!

Peony is one of my favorite flowers, she also got me a mini peony roll-on perfume from L'Occitane. It smells amazing! I love it :)

We also went to Caffé Demetre for some desserts. I had Belgian waffle with cookie n' cream flavored ice-cream. I love desserts there. What's your favorite ice-cream flavors? I just can't decide between Tiramisu and Green tea flavored!! I just love them both :)

Hope you all have a nice Monday!

Birthday

Hi everyone. How are you today? I'm sorry for the inconsistent post. My week has been kind of hectic these days. Well, it's my birthday today. I'm turning 28! OMG....I still can't believe it (I feel kinda old!!).

Atchan celebrated an early birthday for me since last week, he had to go back to Japan during my birthday. We had brunch at Milestones on Yonge and Dundas (that location had the nicest view of downtown Toronto), followed by a nice dinner at a Spanish restaurant, Segovia.

My plan for today is having a nice quiet dinner and maybe dessert with family and friends! Hope you all have a lovely weekend :)

Fabulous finds { Plus Minus Zero }

Hi friends....how are you today? Do you enjoy watching the world cup so far? I know I do!!! Do you have a favorite team? Love to share?

Atchan received wedding gifts from his cousin the other day. It's from the brand Plus Minus Zero. We received a wall clock and couple mugs. The style is simple and modern. I'm thinking to hang the clock when we get an apartment in Japan :)

Today's Brunch { Frittata }

Hi there lovelies. How are you today? I got up so early this morning, I couldn't stop thinking about omelette I had at the bed and breakfast with Atchan last Thursday.

It was such a nice, lovely and memorable day. All the stresses about the wedding were gone. The bed and breakfast where we were staying served cheese omelette with toast and mixed fruits on the balcony. The balcony had such pretty views of Toronto Island. I think it was the best morning I ever had since I could remember. I thought the wedding was so nice, but the next morning with your hubby was even better!!

I thought it would be nice to have something similar to start the day. I decided to make frittata. I found this recipe while surfing for egg and brunch recipes. It got great reviews and worth trying.

Photos won't do justice, it tasted so good!

I'm back

Hi everyone. Happy Monday. I can't believe it's already the end of May. Time flies so fast when you are busy, don't you think?

Atchan and I had so much fun at the wedding. It was such a lovely day for us. We had close friends and family attended. The wedding couldn't happen without them all. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart!!

Today is actually the first day I have time for myself since the wedding day. My mother and aunt in law flew back to Japan yesterday. We took them to Niagara falls, Niagara by the lake and wine tasting, yum! I'm so happy they came to our wedding and we got along so well. I will definitely have to improve my Japanese!

I hope you all have a fun Monday. I wish I had photos to show you, but I'm still waiting for the pictures from the photographer :)

Off to get married

Hi everyone. Happy Happy Wednesday. Today is a very special day for me and Atchan. We are off to get married!!! I'm so nervous right now, but a lot calmer that I thought I would be.

I won't be able to update my blog for a few days. My mother in law and auntie in law flew from Japan last night. I'm very excited that they will be attending to our wedding. We are planning to take them to many places in Ontario!

I better get ready. Have a lovely week :)
